Volunteer Communities: Getting more by giving back

Nowadays when things with the economy are the way they are, the need for social responsibility is more in demand than ever…Social responsibility might involve doing  pro bono work, volunteering or philanthropy.

Caterina Rando, a founder of a non profit organisation has said; ‘when you give back to the community, you also feed your soul, participate in a great community for personal growth and have a lot of fun’. Likewise, Martha Wilson, a coach from Canada has said: ‘By volunteering I have gained skills, confidence, friends, an expanded world view, and the certainty that individuals can and do make a difference’.

The above examples make obvious that it is worth taking a few time to  volunteer or offer something to your community. My own recent experience of volunteering as a tourism information provider and some pro bono coaching sessions I’ have offered, has given me the opportunity to learn new things, practise skills, interact with people and yes, to have fun. Doing that again would be great pleasure for me. The things that I gained out of it were more than I gave..

Would it be possibly for you to volunteer and serve your community once per week, or more? How could you do that and what could you do?

I agree! There are so many benefits to volunteering! Thank you for the great reminder, I am going to commit to putting in at least 4 volunteer hours this month. 🙂
